Fundamentals of Leak Detection
Course Length 1 day
Contact Hours value
7 contact hours in California & Nevada
7 hours Renewal Training Credit (RTC) for Illinois
7 Professional Development Hours (PDH) for Arizona
Course Description
This course is designed to provide participants with a well-rounded knowledge of leak detection, including the causes and implications
of leakage in a water distribution system. Various equipment and methods will be discussed to aid students in pinpointing leaks in
locations of unaccounted for water loss.
Participants will have a better understanding of what leak noise sounds like by learning about the frequency of leaks in different types
and sizes of water mains. Students will also learn how to find leaks using a correlator and deal with field issues that arise. Skills and
techniques learned in the classroom will be applied during the fieldwork portion of the course.
Training method
Classroom followed by fieldwork
Learning objectives
Students will gain the knowledge to have a better understanding of finding leaks in a water distribution system. Participants will learn about various methods and different types of equipment that are available to identify and find leaks. Basic acoustic theory will be covered in order for students to have a better understanding of leak noise. The increased knowledge of locating leaks including pinpointing leaks with a correlator will improve the success of finding actual leaks when working in the field.
