PC Based Leak Noise Correlator
LeakfinderRT is a leak noise correlator for locating leaks in all types of water and other fluids transmission and distribution pipes.
This patented correlator is the first truly personal computer (PC) based system to implement the leak noise correlation technique.
LeakfinderRT is fully realized in software for PCs running under Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, NT, or 98. It utilizes the PC’s soundcard and other multimedia components to record and playback leak noise. Leakfinder RT also uses the PC’s CPU to perform the correlation operation and associated signal conditioning. Modern PCs incorporate extremely fast CPUs and high-resolution soundcards and therefore offer several advantages over “usual” hardware implementations of the leak noise correlation technique.
The use of PCs eliminates the need for a major component of the usual hardware of leak noise correlators, and ensures that users will also have the ability to run the fastest microprocessor available if they wish (ask your current correlator company what processor is used in their equipment). Most potential users of LeakfinderRT already have PCs and this reduces the cost of the LeakfinderRT system (PCs must be equipped with soundcard that has a stereo line-in port). Also, the use of Microsoft’s Windows environment makes the process of using the fully menu-driven LeakfinderRT system simple and intuitive, as most potential users are already familiar with Windows.
LeakfinderRT incorporates several new developments, most importantly an “enhanced” correlation function. For narrow-band leak noise, this new function dramatically improves the definition of correlation peaks. This is important for plastic pipes, multiple leak situations, and in settings where leak sensors have to be closely spaced. Also, the enhanced correlation function is more effective than the traditional function for small leaks or for situations of high background noise.

LeakfinderRT’s has drastically improved performance on PVC and other plastic pipes. The reason for this is our enhanced correlation and advanced sensor technology, as well as our background in acoustics and vibration engineering. Many correlator companies claim their correlators will work on plastic, but in back to back tests, we have consistently correlated leaks that other correlators cannot. In fact, we have towns and cities that have bought our system primarily for it’s performance on PVC. Some have even replaced their existing correlators. Success breeds success, and our ability to more effectively correlate leaks on plastic has allowed us to learn new and improve methods for correlating leaks on these pipes. Our success has not just come in lab or simulated conditions, but in actual leaks in the field. Temporary Replacement Hardware
If you have a correlator, you know the time it takes to have repairs done. We have a zero down time policy on our hardware. If there is a problem with the correlator, either warranty or accidental damage, we will have replacement hardware to our customers to use during the repair time within 48 hours for North America, and 96 hours outside North America (customs and duty delays not included).
Real time support
Imagine you are in the field and cannot correlate a leak. From our office, we take control of your computer and you watch as we troubleshoot For cities or towns, particularly those new to correlation, we can support you in real time (web enabled PC modem card and service required), and help to troubleshoot equipment or a difficult leak while you are in the field.
Off-site File Ananylsis
Wave files may be e-mailed to us for further analysis of difficult leak situations. This is yet another advantage of our Windows based system.
