Distributors FAQs

  • How does LeakListener work?

LeakListener is a passive acoustic listening instrument. LeakListener acts to improve and enhance the sound of leaks on a water system transmitted through any portions of the water distribution system. Sound from leaks, depending on pipe type, can be heard by simply touching the listener to a hydrant, valve, service valve and meter. LeakListener can also be placed directly on the pipe.

  • Will LeakListener pinpoint the leak?

It will determine if a leak is present. And in the case of a service or hydrant leak, LeakListener will determine which side of the control valve has a leak. A correlator would be needed to pinpoint a leak on a distribution pipe leak.

  • What will I be listening for to determine if a leak exists?

As a simple practice, operators are encouraged to practice on a simple tap in their shop. Apply the pointed end of LeakListener to the faucet plunger, press the on button and gently adjust the flow of water increasing and decreasing flow and sound.

  • Are there competing products?

Yes, most of our competitors have existing product to compete with Leak-Listener. They do not come close to matching our quality and price point.

  • What is the downfall to the competition?

Some competitors offer a numeric record, whereas, LeakListener is based on acoustic sound only. Many times operators get caught up with dials and gauges. We prefer to instruct operators to rely on their hearing sense to make better leak detection decisions.
